Three Redskins unable to practice

The Washington Redskins were without starting free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe and starting right tackle Jammal Brown for a second straight day of practice, according to the team’s injury report.

Atogwe remains hobbled by toe and knee injuries, while Brown is dealing with a groin injury suffered in Sunday’s game. Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said it was unlikely Brown would be available for Sunday’s game at Miami, though he’s not yet ready to rule him our.

Backup linebacker Keyaron Fox (skin and knee infection) also did not practice for a second day.

Linebacker Markus White (illness), tight end Fred Davis (ankle), safety Reed Doughty (chest), defensive end Kedric Golston (elbow), Trent Williams (ankle) were all able to fully participate in Thursday’s practice.

The Dolphins’ injury situation looks much better. All of the Dolphins players were able to practice Thursday, including cornerback Nolan Carroll (hamstring), cornerback Vontae Davis (hamstring) and receiver Edmond Gates (groin).

Gotta run!.

Week 6 NFL Injury Report, Washington Redskins: Tim…

The Washington Redskins came out of Thursday’s practice with no new updates on the statuses of their injured players. Running back Tim Hightower (shoulder), cornerback Phillip Buchanon (hamstring), tight end Chris Cooley (knee), and wide receiver Anthony Armstrong (hamstring) were all limited in Thursday’s practice, according to the team’s official Twitter account. There’s no idea yet whether they’ll be available when the Redskins host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

As Washington is coming off a bye, its wounded players have had some extra time to recover. Of the four, Hightower is clearly the most crucial: the four-year veteran leads the Redskins in carries (67), rushing yards (233), and yards from scrimmage (311); he also ranks No. 4 on the team with 10 receptions.

Redskins injury report: LaRon Landry misses second…

The Washington Redskins were without starting strong safety LaRon Landry for a second straight day of practice, and the same five players who were limited on Wednesday were again limited on Thursday, according to the team’s injury report.

Landry, who has said he will not play in the season opener against the New York Giants on Sunday, sat with a slowly-healing strained right hamstring.

Limited in practice were free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (hamstring), return man Brandon Banks (knee), tight end Chris Cooley (knee), receiver Donte Stallworth (shoulder) and running back Ryan Torain (hand).

Coach Mike Shanahan said Cooley continues to make progress each day, but a determination on his availability for Sunday won’t be made until Saturday.

On the Giants’ side, defensive end Justin Tuck did not practice while nursing a neck injury. Tuck, who in the last four games against the Redskins has recorded 3.5 sacks and forced three fumbles, wasn’t on Wednesday’s injury report. Already ruled out for Thursday’s game are cornerback Prince Amukamara (foot), linebacker Jonathan Goff (knee) and defensive end Osi Umenyiora (knee).

Aug 31, 2011 – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be live on television in the Tampa Bay area for just the second time this preseason as they tackle the Washington Redskins in the nations capital this Thursday at 7:30. Unfortunately, fans won’t get to see Josh Freeman or any of the first team as head coach Raheem Morris has already stated that he will be resting his starters during the preseasons final exhibition match.

With the third preseason game, a 17-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins, usually considered the final tuneup for starters and first teamers, expect to see a heavy workload for backups, rookies, and undrafted free-agents attempting to secure a precious roster spot. Earlier this week, the team made 10 roster cuts bringing the total player number down to 80, but there are many tough decisions still to be made for the front office as they must get the roster trimmed down to 53 before the Detroit Lions come to Raymond James on September 11th.

Even without the premiere players on the field there will be interesting battles unravelling on Thursday night. Here are some things to watch for:

  • Running game: The Bucs have struggled to move the ball on the ground all preseason long with LeGarrette Blount unable to flash that bruising style that catapulted him to a 1000-yard rookie season. Perhaps it’s just something that the players are saving till the games count but the fact that the Buccaneers leading rusher so far is the backup quarterback is worrisome.
  • Wide Receivers: It’s looking like the Buccaneers may keep only 5 wideouts on the active roster and with Mike Williams, Arrielious Benn, and Sammie Stroughter having three spots virtually locked up there will be battles for the last two slots. Veteran Michael Spurlock will have to show he can hold off newcomer Preston Parker and breakout player Dezmon Briscoe if he wants to remain a Buccaneer. Ed Gant and Maurice Price are also in the mix, but considered longshots.
  • Defensive Line: Most of the defensive positions look filled but defensive end George Johnson has made things very interesting for the Buccaneers front office when it comes to pencilling in end rushers. Johnson has lead the team in sacks this preseason and played his way into the conversation at DE. If he can continue his hot play against the Redskins he may well find himself on the active roster come Sunday’s instead of the practice squad.
  • Finally, stay healthy: Most important is that the players who project to end up on the active roster stay healthy. That’s why you won’t see Freeman or any of the skill position starters Thursday night. Even though it may diminish the quality of the game for the fans, it’s worth it to not have anyone get injured in a game that means absolutely nothing.

Washington Redskins Training Camp Schedule: First…

Read More: Donovan McNabb (QB – WAS), Albert Haynesworth (DT – WAS), Washington Redskins

UPDATE: The Redskins have clarified and said Friday, not Saturday, is the first official practice, but it is closed to the public.

The full Washington Redskins 2011 training camp schedule has been released to the public, and now, we know what it will mean for the players. Training camp will officially begin on Thursday, but the first open practice won’t be until Saturday morning. As it turns out, that also will be the first practice with pads all week.

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that the first three days of training camp will not feature full practices. Here is the schedule:

#Redskins timeline: Wednesday is report day, Thursday is physicals; Friday is conditioning work and first official practice is Saturday.

This is hardly a surprise, but now it is official. Players began using the facilities as early as Tuesday, though not everyone was present. Wednesday is the day that everyone needs to report, so it will be interesting to see whether Donovan McNabb and Albert Haynesworth show up.
