The Washington Redskins’ 33-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings ultimately did nothing to affect their position in the 2012 NFL Draft order. With one week to play in the season, the Redskins are still sitting in the No. 7 slot in the draft order, though they did inch closer to moving up even higher depending on what happens in Week 17.
The Redskins currently are tied for the seventh-worst record at 5-10 with the Miami Dolphins, but own the tiebreaker by virtue of their strength of schedule. Redskins opponents have combined for a winning percentage of just under 47 percent this season.
Here is the order as it stands:
- Indianapolis Colts: 2-13
- St. Louis Rams: 2-13
- Minnesota Vikings: 3-12
- Jacksonville Jaguars: 4-11
- Cleveland Browns: 4-11
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 4-11
- Washington Redskins: 5-10
- Miami Dolphins: 5-10
- Carolina Panthers: 6-9
- Buffalo Bills: 6-9
- Kansas City Chiefs: 6-9
- Arizona Cardinals: 7-8
- Philadelphia Eagles: 7-8
- Seattle Seahawks: 7-8
- San Diego Chargers: 7-8
- Chicago Bears: 7-7
- Dallas Cowboys: 8-7
- Tennessee Titans: 8-7
- New York Jets: 8-7
- Oakland Raiders: 8-7

The Washington Redskins hit practice field today to prepare for their NFC East match up with the New York Giants. The Redskins were missing four players from practice however, including starting safety LaRon Landry, who’s still dealing with a groin and Achilles injury. ”Even if he does come back, what speed can he practice at? What speed can he play at? Usually when a guy comes back after being away for a week or two weeks, it takes a little time to get back in football shape and play in a game. If he does come back tomorrow, we’ll see how he practices and if he can suit up for the weekend,” head coach Mike Shanahan said after practice. Three other players missed practice:
OT Jammal Brown (groin), FB Mike Sellers (elbow), WR Donte Stallworth (illness/ankle)
The Redskins also had four players limited in practice, including linebacker London Fletcher, who is dealing with an ankle injury.
S Reed Doughty (rib), P Sav Rocca (ankle), DE Stephen Bowen (knee)

The Washington Redskins’ injury report and inactive list for their game against the New York Jets is out, and it’s now officially official: strong safety LaRon Landry is inactive with a groin injury. Otherwise, the Redskins received mostly good news on the injury report. Linebacker London Fletcher and defensive lineman Stephen Bowen, who were both listed as questionable on Friday, will be in the lineup.
In addition, fullback Darrel Young and wide receiver Terrence Austin are both inactive. Young has a concussion, while Austin has a hamstring injury. Here is the full list of Redskins inactives:
- WR Terrence Austin
- SS LaRon Landry
- CB Brandyn Thompson
- FB Darrel Young
- LB Markus White
- OL Willie Smith
- OL Tyler Polumbus
Reed Doughty will start for Landry, while Mike Sellers will likely start for Young.

The Washington Redskins’ Thursday Injury Report for their Thanksgiving weekend game against the Seattle Seahawks delivered mostly good news. Not one player who wasn’t already ruled out for Sunday missed practice entirely, and while several players, including linebacker London Fletcher, were limited, wide receiver Santana Moss practiced in full and will likely be back in the lineup for the first time since getting injured in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.
The major changes from Wednesday are that Fletcher and wide receiver Niles Paul were limited after missing practice entirely on Wednesday. Several other players were limited in practice, with varying degrees of concern. Here is a full list of players who practiced on Thursday.
Limited: OL Jammal Brown (groin), LB London Fletcher (ankle), S DeJon Gomes (knee), OL Maurice Hurt (knee), OL Sean Locklear (ankle), WR Niles Paul (toe), WR Donte’ Stallworth (foot), OL Trent Williams (knee), CB Josh Wilson (hamstring).
Full practice: LB Keyaron Fox (Infection), S LaRon Landry (Achilles), WR Santana Moss (hand).

Barry Cofield is a good quote in the good times and a good quote in the bad times. Here’s what he said on Monday after yet another Washington Redskins’ loss.
The veteran defensive tackle said Monday: “If we don’t play better, then there’s no reason to expect to win any games.”
The Redskins have lost five straight to drop to 3-6 ahead of next week’s game against the rival Dallas Cowboys.
Cofield said “the ball’s just not going to bounce our way, and so it could very ugly. It could get historically ugly.”
Boy, “historically ugly” sounds bad. Then again, the Redskins haven’t actually held a lead in a game since October 4. If we’re being honest, it’s already become “historically ugly.”

Washington Redskins’ wide receiver Leonard Hankerson may work his way onto a few fantasy football rosters after having a solid performance against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The Redskins’ rookie, starting due to the injury to Santana Moss, caught eight passes for 106 yards. The only problem is that he also suffered a hip injury and had to leave the game.
Check out SB Nation’s Fantasy Football Hub
If Hankerson remains healthy, he may be worth a look if Rex Grossman continues to start at quarterback. Grossman may throw lots of interceptions, but at least he’ll try to get the ball to his wide receiver. Of all those wideouts, Hankerson was targeted the most. That makes him at least serviceable as a backup if he can remain healthy.

Roy Helu fantasy owners are probably mad at Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan right now. The promising fourth-round rookie did not start for the Redskins in their 20-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, even though he was impressive in his first start against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 9. Naturally, his fantasy numbers suffered.
Check out SB Nation’s Fantasy Football Hub
Helu ended up with 41 yards rushing and 13 yards receiving in the Redskins’ loss. Much of that can be explained by Shanahan electing to start Ryan Torain, who was not impressive when he played. Had the Redskins started Helu, he likely would have put up solid fantasy numbers. Instead, Shanahan’s running back roulette claimed fantasy owners again.

Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis, listed as questionable throughout the week for his team’s home tilt against the San Francisco 49ers, will start Sunday, according to a report from the NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora:
Davis was seen in a walking boot as recently as Monday, and was limited in practice on Friday, but it appears the ankle injury he suffered in the brutal loss to the Buffalo Bills last week will not keep him from starting Sunday afternoon. It’s a good thing too, because Redskins quarterback John Beck will need all the help he can get against San Francisco’s top-ranked defense.

Nov 6, 2011 – The reeling Washington Redskins (3-4) welcome the red-hot San Francisco 49ers (6-1) to FedEx Field on Sunday afternoon, in a matchup of team teams headed in opposite directions. After a promising 3-1 start, Washington has lost three straight games, as injuries and offensive futility continue to plague Mike Shanahan’s team. San Francisco has won five straight games, and is off to their best start since 1998. The 49ers boast the top-ranked defense in the National Football League, allowing just 15.3 points per game - a frightening thought for the Redskins, a team that struggles to reach double digits on the scoreboard each week. Could this perhaps be a trap game for San Francisco, traveling from the West Coast and having to kick off at 1:00 PM EST? Redskins fans can only hope that is the case.
Game Date/Time: Sunday, November 6; 1:00pm EST
Location: FedEx Field, Landover, MD

National: FOX (Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa)

Nov 4, 2011 – The Washington Redskins will square off against the red-hot San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, and there’s plenty of heat on everyone coming into the game. In particular, there’s a lot of people who are not happy with the play-calling of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. To discuss that issue and more, SB Nation D.C.’s Daniel Shiferaw joined John Aaron on CSN Washington’s “Lunchbox Live.”
Aaron and Shiferaw discussed Kyle Shanahan’s future, the 10 sacks that John Beck took in the 23-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday and which people are to blame for the Redskins’ woes. Video of the complete six-minute show is embeded right here.

Due to a knee injury, Washington Redskins safety Oshiomogho Atogwe did not participate in the team’s Thursday practice, further casting doubt on his availability for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. This news comes via John Keim of the Washington Examiner, who also notes the team limited tight end Fred Davis during practice due to a sprained ankle.
In addition, left guard Trent Williams, who has missed each of Washington’s last two games, “set it back” during Thursday’s practice, coach Mike Shanahan told reporters. The Redskins need Williams healthy in order to bolster their offensive line, which has yielded 13 sacks in the two games he’s missed, including a franchise-record 10 against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Atogwe has 27 tackles (20 solo) and one interception this season. Davis, meanwhile, ranks No. 1 on the team in catches (36) and yards (517). The season-ending injuries to top wideout Santana Moss and backup tight end Chris Cooley put even more pressure on Davis to be involved in the passing game.
Shanahan declined to say whether he would use Kareem Moore in Atogwe’s place if Atogwe is unable to play, according to Rick Maese. Washington must decide by Nov. 16 if it plans to keep Moore on the 53-man roster or place him on injured reserve. A knee injury has sidelined Moore for the entire 2011 season to date.

We’re through one half in Toronto, and it’s not a pretty story for the Washington Redskins. The team’s offense has been horrendous, and the defense hasn’t been much better. Thanks to a couple big plays, the Buffalo Bills only have a 13-0 lead at halftime. It could have been much worse.
The Bills tacked on two Rian Lindell field goals to go along with a first-half touchdown for Scott Chandler. It could have been worse, but London Fletcher intercepted Ryan Fitzpatrick on the goal line to stop a sure Bills scoring drive.
Washington’s offense picked up only four yards in the entire second quarter and have only 61 net yards for the entire game. John Beck has struggled, especially after he banged his thumb on a helmet trying to make a throw.

The Washington Redskins’ Week 8 Injury Report for their game against the Buffalo Bills is out, and two key members of the secondary are listed as questionable. Top cornerback DeAngelo Hall and free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe may both be absent, depending on how their injuries heal between now and Sunday.
Hall missed practice earlier in the week with a hip injury, one that developed earlier in the week. Atogwe, meanwhile, has been limited this week since being held out of last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers with a knee injury. Both players will be needed against a high-powered Bills offense.
In addition, quarterback Rex Grossman is probable after dealing with illness earlier in the week. Linebacker London Fletcher is officially listed as questionable, but coach Mike Shanahan said he will play barring a setback.

Chris Cooley’s latest injury that has sent him to injured reserve is a tough setback for the popular Washington Redskins’ tight end. Whether it was his broken finger or his troublesome nagging knee injury that did him in, the result is still the same. Now, the Redskins’ tight end must wonder about his future in Washington. Has he played his last game for the Redskins?
Cooley is technically under contract until 2014, but this is the NFL, where players can be released. With Fred Davis emerging as a legitimate option, it may not be wise for the Redskins to pay Cooley his $3.8 million base salary for next season. The Redskins may consider restructuring the deal to keep him in the fold at a lower salary, which could be a fair compromise if they feel Cooley still has something left and if Cooley agrees to it. However, Cooley will be 30 next season and has already shown signs of slowing down. After playing in all 80 games in his first five seasons, Cooley has missed 20 games in the past three years.
If this is indeed it for Cooley, what a Redskins career it has been. He ranks first in franchise history in receptions for a tight end with 428, which is also good for fifth overall among any receiver who has played for the franchise. He was a mainstay in the organization when everything else was unstable and will be remembered as a fan favorite no matter what happens at the end of the day. We will have to wait and see what the Redskins elect to do once the 2011 season ends.
