Read More: Malcolm Kelly (WR – WAS), Xavier Fulton (OT – WAS), Ben Chappell (QB – WAS), Jarvis Jenkins (DE – WAS), Dante Barnes (DB – WAS), Tyrone Grant (DB – WAS), Eric McBride (LB – WAS), Joe Torchia (TE – WAS), Washington Redskins The Washington Redskins have completed their round of NFL roster cuts, getting their squad down to 80 players prior to the 4 p.m. Tuesday deadline. The four most recent players released are defensive back Dante Barnes, defensive back Tyrone Grant, offensive lineman Corey O’Daniel and tight end Joe Torchia, according to a team release. They join quarterback Ben Chappell, offensive lineman Xavier Fulton, linebacker Eric McBride and wide receiver Malcolm Kelly as the players released on Tuesday. Kelly is the most significant of the nine cuts, given his status as a former second-round pick of the team back in 2008. He ended up receiving an injury settlement from the club stemming from his hamstring and knee issues that have plagued him. The Redskins also cleared a roster spot by sending defensive lineman Jarvis Jenkins to injured reserve following an ACL tear. The Redskins now have until September 3 to get down to the 53-man roster they will carry into the NFL’s regular season. We’ll be keeping track of all the roster moves that the Redskins make, on Tuesday and throughout the week, in this StoryStream, but check out Hogs Haven for more information. | 2011 NFL Cuts: Washington Redskins Release Eric…
Read More: Malcolm Kelly (WR – WAS), Xavier Fulton (OT – WAS), Clint Stitser (K – WAS), Ben Chappell (QB – WAS), Jarvis Jenkins (DE – WAS), Eric McBride (LB – WAS), Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers The Washington Redskins continue to make a series of roster cuts as the 4 p.m. deadline to get down to 80 players looms. In a press conference after practice on Tuesday, Mike Shanahan confirmed five of the seven players the team needed to cut. They are Malcolm Kelly, Ben Chappell, Clint Stitser, Eric McBride and Xavier Fulton. The first three on the list were previously reported, with Kelly being the big one. McBride is an outside linebacker from Richmond who didn’t do much during camp, while Fulton was a spare offensive lineman that was drafted by the Buccaneers in the fifth round in 2009. Neither release comes as a surprise. The Redskins also placed defensive lineman Jarvis Jenkins on injured reserve, freeing up another roster spot and allowing them to release one less player. We’ll be keeping track of all the roster moves that the Redskins make, on Tuesday and throughout the week, in this stream, but check out Hogs Haven for more information. Not much else going on in the NBA world today. |

| Malcolm Kelly Among Washington Redskins Roster… | |
Read More: Malcolm Kelly (WR – WAS), Washington Redskins The Washington Redskins need to get down to the league-mandated 80-man roster limit by 4:00 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday and they’ve started the process releasing a number of players, including WR Malcolm Kelly. It’s not a major surprise by any means but Kelly was a second round pick just three years ago in the 2008 NFL draft. SB Nation DC isn’t surprised by the move to release Kelly, which is expected to become official sometime on Tuesday.
The injuries, the receivers picked up this year and Kelly’s inability to make an impact in three seasons make this an easier move to make. The Redskins have released a handful of players already, which you can read about at SB Nation DC. They’ll need to get down to 80 players by Tuesday afternoon and then on Sept. 3 they’ll be cutting down to 53 players. Running low on time today, i’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with some more news. |

| NFL Cuts 2011: Washington Redskins To Release… | |
Read More: Fred Davis (TE – WAS), Malcolm Kelly (WR – WAS), Devin Thomas (WR – NYG), Washington Redskins It looks like this is the finally the end of the road in D.C. for 2008 second-round draft pick Malcolm Kelly. As we near the 4 p.m. deadline for NFL roster cuts to get teams down to 80 players, it appears the Redskins will release Kelly. Rick Maese of the Washington Post has the news.
The news doesn’t come as a surprise. Kelly had suffered another hamstring injury early in camp, and the Redskins are crowded at wide receiver after drafting three in the 2011 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, it’s the official end of an era for Kelly, for whom great things were expected after being picked along with Devin Thomas and Fred Davis in the 2008 NFL Draft’s second round. Of the three, only Davis is still on the roster, and he remains a backup. For more on Kelly, visit Hogs Haven. | Malcolm Kelly appears unlikely to survive cuts
Updated: 1:59 p.m. The Washington Redskins plan to waive oft-injured wide receiver Malcolm Kelly Tuesday afternoon, according to a person familiar with the situation. Under Collective Bargaining Agreement rules, Kelly — as a player released while injured — would be added to an injured reserve list if he clears waivers, as expected. Once Kelly is physically sound in the judgement of team physicians, he would be released. Kelly, who for his career has 28 catches for 365 yards and no touchdowns, could receive an injury settlement upon his release. Earlier Post: Although Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Monday that oft-injured receiver Malcolm Kelly could return sometime this week, it appears increasingly unlikely the former second-round pick will make the team.
Kelly spent last season on I.R. after injuring his hamstring the week before training camp and suffering two setbacks that prevented him from playing in the preseason. Selected out of Oklahoma in the second round of the 2008 draft, Kelly has seen his career sabotaged by injuries. He was limited to just five games his rookie season and played all 16 games his second year, but hasn’t been able to get on the field since. At 6-foot-4, 226 pounds, Kelly is the biggest receiver on Washington’s roster, but the Redskins added another big target in April when they drafted Miami’s Leonard Hankerson, who is 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, in the third round. Also expected to be among the players released are rookie undrafted quarterback Ben Chapppell and kicker Clint Stitser, who was signed two weeks ago to compete with Graham Gano, but has not played. ???initialComments:true! pubdate:08/30/2011 13:09 EDT! commentPeriod:3! commentEndDate:9/2/11 1:9 EDT! currentDate:8/30/11 2:33 EDT! allowComments:true! displayComments:false!
